Privacy policy

Effective October 4, 2026

The short version

Who we are

Megaphone Bar is a Mac app made by Rodney Manor ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Megaphone Bar app for macOS and this website, getbaton.app.

What stays on your Mac

Megaphone Bar records your microphone and your Mac's sound during a capture. It turns speech into text with Apple's speech recognition on your Mac. It saves the audio (.m4a), the transcript, your notes and every hand-off as plain files in the ~/Baton folder. We do not have a server that stores them, and we cannot see them.

You can open, edit, move or delete these files at any time. Delete a file and it is gone. Uninstalling Megaphone Bar does not delete ~/Baton, so you keep your notes.

What leaves your Mac, and only when you choose

Permissions the app asks for

You can turn any of these off in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Updates

Megaphone Bar checks for updates by downloading a small update file from our download server (Bunny CDN). Like any web server, it can see your IP address and app version for that request. We use this only to deliver updates.

This website

This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. It is hosted on Vercel and loads a font from Google Fonts. Those providers can see standard request details, such as your IP address and browser, to serve the page.

Recording other people

Recording laws differ by place. Some places require everyone on a call to agree. You are responsible for telling people and getting consent where the law requires it. Megaphone Bar gives you a one-tap consent line to paste in the chat when you start a capture.

Children

Megaphone Bar is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how your data leaves your Mac, we will say so in the app's release notes.
